Why You Should Never Skip Your Moisturizer

Why You Should Never Skip Your Moisturizer

If you’re not ending your daily (or twice-daily) beauty ritual with nourishing moisturizer, you may want to start now…

Why moisturize?

Skin moisturizers have one of the most important jobs in your beauty routine and serve to create and maintain a barrier between your skin and the toxins and pollutants in the air. This barrier ensures that your skin retains its moisture and can help curve over-production of oil throughout the day.

While there are many different types of moisturizers available – from those containing high water content for oily skin to rich in oils for drier skin – avoiding products that boast petroleum-derived “Mineral Oil” is an important practice to implement. This will help you #LiveCleaner through every aspect of your beauty routine.

Oil is a friend, not a foe.

In fact, almost all moisturizers that boast about being “oil-free” not only aren’t natural, but include silicones which provide a smooth feeling without any of the benefits natural oils provide. Mineral oil, derived from petroleum, is the opposite of natural and is used to extend shelf life in many drug store products. That’s a lot of preservatives to be slathering on your body daily!

For those with sensitive skin, a long list of ingredients can translate into irritants and other good-skin antagonists that may cause an inflammatory reaction. Oily skin may crave a serum to be applied prior to a moisturizer to prep the skin for maximum absorption.

Nourish and protect your skin with shea butter and balm.

DIY Universal Body Butter

Ingredients:

  • 5 oz. Shea Butter

  • 1 oz. grapeseed or olive oil

  • 3 oz. coconut oil

  • Up to 30 drops essential oils (choose the scent of your choice!)

Warm the liquid oils slowly over low heat and add organic Shea Butter until they combine easily - be careful not to overheat! Heating over 160 degrees begins to destroy the vitamins and anti-oxidants contained in the plant oils. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly before adding the essential oils.

Using a hand mixer, whip the butter after tt has cooled down completely. Spoon into sterilized glass jars with tight lids. Keep at a cool temperature and avoid contaminating your blend with dirty hands or any water. Use this for up to six months!
